Office Culture
You know that moment when you’re in a busy office, trying to find a quiet spot to take a call, or just get some uninterrupted work done? That’s the moment Inbox Booths was created for.
In an earlier chat, I had the chance to sit down with Reuben, the founder, and Scot, the president, to dive into the story behind how the company got started. [You can read about that conversation here].
But today, I sat down with Scot again to talk about how their product has evolved—from the very first version to what we see today in the seventh version. Spoiler: it’s a pretty amazing journey.
The journey from V1 to V7 was about solving a problem that many of us face. Inbox Booths didn’t just pop up overnight. It’s been a constant process of tweaking, refining, and listening to customers to build something that truly makes a difference.
So let’s dive into how they’ve moved from their early models to the highly adaptable, soundproof booths they offer today.
The Birth of Inbox Booths
Inbox Booths came from a very real place of frustration—something Scot and Reuben were feeling themselves as entrepreneurs. They were working in a noisy, open office, and it was impossible to focus. The distractions were constant, and it was clear that their team wasn’t performing at their best in that environment. So, they decided to do something about it. They looked into soundproof office booths but found that the options were either too expensive, poorly made, or took forever to ship. That’s when they realized they could build something better—something that was affordable, quick to install, and high-quality.
“We had a simple goal: create a solution that didn’t exist in the market,” Scot explained. “The early challenge was perfecting the details—things like door handles and built-in speakers seemed simple but were critical for users. We quickly became aware of how even the smallest features needed to be well thought out.”
Version 1 addressed immediate needs, but the real journey was just beginning.
Adapting to Feedback: Versions 2 to 7
When I asked Scot how they moved from their first version to where they are now, he was quick to point out that it’s all about feedback from real-world use. “We made it a point to listen closely to what our customers were saying—whether it was through our sales team, our install team, or our customer service department,” Scot said.
The first version, while functional, wasn’t perfect. They quickly realized things like door handles and built-in speakers were tricky to get right. Doors would need more maintenance, and customers wanted more features. So, they started taking feedback from customers and installation teams, and using that information to tweak and improve the product. Every new version, from V1 to V7, has been about making the booths more user-friendly, durable, and functional.
One of the biggest shifts came with their newer models, which include better soundproofing, easier assembly, and more sustainable materials. Scot shared that they’ve even re-engineered the door jams for a quieter, more durable solution.
Sustainability and Smart Design
Sustainability has always been a core value for Inbox Booths. From day one, they’ve focused on creating a product that not only solves noise problems but also minimizes environmental impact. The materials they use—like glass and aluminum—are recyclable, and they’ve even reduced packaging waste over time. It’s been a gradual process of making each version of the booth greener and more efficient. Today, not one part of an Inbox Booth reaches a landfill. Everything is fully recyclable.
And it’s not just about being green. Inbox Booths has also prioritized smart design features, like motion sensors for lighting and whisper-quiet fans that keep the booths cool without being disruptive.
With Version 5, Inbox Booths reached a major milestone in their evolution. “One of our biggest breakthroughs was the shift to door jams and glass-to-glass enclosures,” Scot shared. “This allowed for better soundproofing and lower servicing costs.” These updates significantly improved both the performance and the durability of the booths, making them a more cost-effective choice for businesses.
The latest versions even have smart locking tech and sensors that track how much the booths get used. ” This data helps companies optimize their office space more efficiently,” Scot noted.
Some pretty cool stuff when you think about how far they’ve come.
Comfort, Accessibility, and More Customization
Another big change has been in the ergonomics and comfort of the booths. Scot explained how they’ve added features like standing desks, more comfortable seating, and different furniture layouts to better suit a variety of work styles. They’ve also made their booths more accessible, with floorless models that meet ADA compliance, and they offer customizable options for companies that want something unique—like branded glass or different booth sizes.
One of the more unexpected use cases has been in places like libraries and universities, where the need for quiet spaces is just as crucial as in traditional offices. Scot mentioned that schools like Baylor University and the University of Fraser Valley have adopted Inbox Booths, which just shows how versatile these booths have become.
What’s Next for Inbox Booths?
As we wrapped up our conversation, Scot talked about what’s on the horizon. Inbox Booths isn’t done evolving. They’re constantly working on new features and products, with more smart technology, better soundproofing, and even more sustainability in the works. Scot’s excitement about the future of Inbox Booths was clear—he and the team are committed to staying ahead of the curve and continuing to innovate.
“We’re already prototyping new features, like LED light strips and integrated monitor mounts, and testing ways to make the booths even more customizable,” Scot said. Their commitment to listening to customers and adapting to new trends ensures Inbox Booths will remain a leader in the industry for years to come.
So, whether you’re in need of a quiet space in a noisy office or looking to create flexible workspaces, Inbox Booths has come a long way, and they’re not slowing down anytime soon.
